FINAL CONFERENCE IN STAVROPOL

‘Counteraction to Radical Islam is a Basis of Peace in the Caucasus’

On November 25 - 26 in Stavropol took place the final conference ‘Counteraction to Radical Islam is a Basis of Peace in the Caucasus.’ The event was held on the basis of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), Stavropol branch and was supported by IFA (Institute of International Relations) within ZIVIK, a program of the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The representatives of authorities, ethnic religious councils, as well as the youth leaders of Diasporas, spiritual leaders and others took part in the conference.

The main goal of the conference was the final summing up of the work of a forum and dialogue platforms in the North Caucasus, as well as the formation of a climate of trust between the authorities and civil society on countering radical Islam in the region. On the basis of RANEPA (Stavropol branch) there was developed a permanent dialogue platform in terms of which the representatives of authorities and local communities were trained.

The conference summed up the results of close interaction with the Spiritual Directorate of the Muslims in the North Caucasus on the issues of systematic counteraction to radical Islam. Within the conference has been developed a strategy for the prevention of religious extremism in the format of a permanent Center through online social networks. The development of ongoing online media columns on counteraction to radical Islam via the Islamic State is one of the main Center's outputs.

During the conference were offered and distributed training programs, methodological literature etc. The resolution of the conference included proposals about the strategy of further long-term cooperation between the authorities and civil society on countering radical Islam - the ‘plague’ of the 21st century.
