Workshop in Berlin on 7 - 9 November, 2016

"Countering Radical Islam as Condition to Peace in the Caucasus"

Centre for Science and Social Innovations took part in a workshop in Berlin on 7- 9 November on the issue: "Countering Radical Islam as Condition to Peace in the Caucasus."

Centre for Science and Social Innovations took part in a workshop in Berlin on 7- 9 November on the issue: "Countering Radical Islam as Condition to Peace in the Caucasus." The main hosts of the workshop were  our partners:

- PfP Consortium of Defense Academies and Security Studies Institutes;

- Civil Conflict Resolution (German Foreign Ministry);

- American German Business Club Berlin e.V.

 The main goal of the workshop was a dialogue forum on the development of measures countering radical Islam, ensuring a climate of trust between ethnic groups and religions in the region, as well as strengthening the role of civil society. The workshop became a mechanism for relaxation of political tensions between the major political centers focused on developing a solution to the problem of religious extremism in the Caucasus.

The workshop included discussion panels devoted to the problem of terrorism and radical Islam.

Panel 4 of the workshop was especially relevant as it was a follow-up  of  the round table that took place in Stavropol in July, 2016:  "The Role of the Church and Civil Society in Countering Islamic radicalism" http://en.nsi-centre.ru/the-centre-for-combating-islamic-radicalism/news1/176-project-counteraction-to-radical-islam-is-the-basis-of-peace-in-the-caucasus

Experts from different parts of the North Caucasus took part in the round table and shared their experience in countering radical Islam with the colleagues from Moscow, Washington D.C., Berlin, Paris and Bucharest. The work of our centre was highly esteemed and we have already received some proposals from our partners for cooperation on the same issue in 2017. Therefore, our project will be developed and continued next year.
